Photo and description
The Swiss Firefighting Museum in Basel demonstrates to everyone the history of fighting fire: this is a variety of devices used at different times, and techniques created to more effectively eliminate all kinds of fires. Here you will see everything about methods of extinguishing fires and firefighters - from a medieval manual syringe to a modern oxygen circulation device, a variety of fire warning devices, alarms, uniforms of firemen used in different years, as well as the transport on which firefighting equipment was transported.
Alas, the museum does not have sufficient territory to accommodate all the major exhibits related to the history of the technical progress of the fire department, but a lot can be seen here, for example, a self-propelled automobile steam fire pump produced in 1905, which is still fully functional and is the only one in the world today. The most ancient exhibits in the museum's collection date back to the 13th century.
Since January 2010, you can also see models illustrating the possible further development of fire fighting activities here. special robotic firefighters.
The museum has existed since 1957. For ten years, it was called the Basel Fire Museum. Since 1967 it has been called the "Swiss Firefighting Museum". The museum is sponsored by the Basel Fire Service, one of the oldest in the country. However, the museum is not considered a public enterprise and is run by the canton.
