One of the places of the Greek island of Lesvos, which is definitely worth a visit, is undoubtedly Skala Eresu - a small resort town with a well-developed tourist infrastructure, located on the western coast of the island about 90 km from the administrative center of Lesvos Mytilene and just a few kilometers from the city of Eressos, of which it is, in fact, the harbor.

As evidenced by the results of archaeological excavations and a number of historical documents, it was here in ancient times that ancient Eressos was located - an important trade the center of the ancient world, named after Eressos, the son of the mythical king Lesbos Macarius, and giving the world such outstanding philosophers of ancient Greece as Theophrastus and Phanius of Eres. It is also believed that Eressos is the hometown of the legendary ancient Greek poetess, included in the canonical list of the "nine lyricists" - Sappho (although some historians still believe that Sappho's hometown is Mytilene).
