Museum of the history of aircraft engine building and repair - museum of aircraft repair plant №218 in the city of Gatchina. The construction of the museum began in February 2002. The former production premises of the aircraft repair plant in the building of the court-stable (historical) part were converted into a museum. The museum was opened in August 2002 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the creation of the Russian Air Force.

The 800 square meters of the museum houses 16 life-size models of aircraft engines. Among them: turbojet, turboprop, turboshaft engines. All models were made on the basis of real aircraft engines, which were decommissioned from flight operation for one reason or another and were specially prepared for the museum exposition.

The main goal of the Museum of Aviation Engine Building is to promote the capabilities of Russian manufacturers in aircraft manufacturing, as well as to preserve the history of Russian aviation for future generations. To date, there are presented aircraft engines of the following design bureaus (manufacturing plants): “Plant named after V. Ya. Klimova "(St. Petersburg)," Tushino MKB "Soyuz" (Moscow), "A. Lyulka-Saturn "(Moscow)," AMNTK "Soyuz" (Moscow), "ZMKB" Progress "(Zaporozhye)," NPP Motor "(Ufa)," Aviadvigatel "(Perm) .

Each model of an aircraft engine has information panels that tell about the history of the creation of this type of aircraft engine, a design bureau-developer, a manufacturer, a repair plant, biographies of chief designers, as well as aircraft with these engines are presented. To the attention of museum visitors there are small models of aircraft, where such aircraft engines were installed. In the future, it is planned to increase the museum exposition, both in terms of the number of exhibits and in terms of content.

The museum has an informational exhibition that presents the latest achievements of aircraft repair plants in the field of aircraft repair.

В due to the fact that Gatchina has always been famous for the names of its pilots: Nesterov, Gorshkov, Zvereva, Chkalov, as well as for the first flight schools, among whose graduates many have become famous for their heroic deeds, the management of aircraft repair plant No. 218 is planning to arrange new exhibitions on the theme of history aviation in Gatchina ("Mikhail Efimov - the first pilot of Russia", "Gatchina - the cradle of Russian aviation").

The aircraft repair plant in Gatchina itself was established back in August 1944. Over the entire period of its existence, tens of thousands of aircraft engines of all kinds of modifications have been repaired here. Today, the plant in Gatchina is a leading enterprise in the aircraft repair network of the Russian Air Force, since it has all the necessary modern technological equipment and production facilities, as well as qualified personnel. Aircraft Repair Plant No. 218 fully meets the needs of the repair of aircraft engines of the Air Force and external customers.

The plant carries out overhaul of aircraft engines D-ZOF6, RD-33, R95SH, R25-300, R13-300, boxes aircraft units. Since 1998, the plant began to carry out major overhauls of the most common helicopter aircraft engine TVZ-117 of various modifications. The plant also carries out repairs of electrical units and fuel control equipment. Repairs are carried out in close cooperation with engine developers and manufacturers and under mandatory supervision.

Since 1992, the aircraft repair plant in Gatchina has been producing and improving ground-based installations based on the R25-300 and R13-300 aircraft engines, which have reached their end of life. Such installations are successfully used in the Air Force for removing ice and clearing snow from airfield surfaces. The plant has the ability to carry out joint work on the production of ground-based installations based on exhausted aircraft engines for ventilation of quarries, drying of building premises, cleaning switches and railway tracks, disinfection of poultry farms, etc.
