Photo and description

The Transfiguration Cathedral begins its history in 88 of the 18th century, when, at the request of Prince Potemkin-Tavrichesky, a wooden one-altar temple was consecrated. But ten years later, the building burned down, and construction, begun in 1806, ended with the temple collapsing.

The new building, which has survived to this day, was consecrated in 1813. And despite the fact that the temple was closed twice in the 20th century - in the 30s and 60s - the cathedral itself survived. The temple opened a new page in its history on the first day of 1992, when, after a long time, the Divine Liturgy was served here again, and the service in the temple began to be restored. The rector of the cathedral, Archpriest Petro Sidor, made a lot of efforts to make the temple so, how it is seen now not only by the local population, but also by the guests of the city.

The cathedral contains fragments of the relics of saints, there are revered icons, among which one of the main places is occupied by the icon of the Mother of God "Elisavetgrad". This icon is the shrine of Kirovograd people, the patroness and defender of Kirovograd.

A monument was erected on the territory of the temple for the 2000th anniversary of the Nativity of Christ, and a new bell tower was built in the neoclassical style. The vast territory of the temple is beautifully decorated with fountains, flower beds, sculptural groups. Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral is a historical and architectural landmark and a cult building and is a significant component in the formation of the spiritual culture of the inhabitants of the Kirovograd region.
