Before the modern Church of the Holy Spirit, in the Middle Ages there were two churches of the same name. The first was built in 1214, however, it was soon destroyed during the Mongol invasion. The next church in the Gothic style was built in 1481. In 1596 the church was destroyed, the authorities decided not to restore the church. The direct predecessor of the modern Church of the Holy Spirit was a brick church with a high tower, built in 1928 by the architect Hermann Pfaferott. It was destroyed during the Second World War, the ruins were demolished in 1954. In 1972, permission was obtained from the city administration to build a new church. One of the conditions set by the administration to the architects Waldemar Vavzunik, George Voinarovich and Tadeusz Zipser was a low construction budget. The first service in the church took place on December 24, 1975, although work was carried out until 1983. The church was built in a modern style, the architects in their work were inspired by the style of the French designer Le Corbusier, a representative of modernism. The total height of the church is 54 meters, the church has 600 seats. At the beginning of the 21st century, changes were made to the appearance of the church - the facade was covered with bright orange plaster. The work was carried out without agreement with the authors of the project.
