The island got its name many centuries ago, when it was presented as a gift by Mark Anatoly, the Roman general, the great queen. At that time, the ancient city of Kedrai was located on the island. The city was surrounded by powerful fortress walls with high towers, and in its central part there was the Temple of Apollo. Only ruins have survived from the city to this day. The best preserved on the island is a small amphitheater located on the side of a mountain. The main attraction of the island, of course, is its incomparable sandy beach. According to legend, the sand was specially brought from Africa to the island for the queen.
