Greco-Roman Museum in Egypt, Alexandria resort
Rating: 7,6/10 (300 votes)  In the collection of the Greco-Roman Museum there are about 40 000 exhibits related to the art of the Romans and Greeks. The main attraction of the museum – this is a large collection of terracotta figurines from Tanagra. They belong to the Hellenistic period. It is also worth looking at the various portraits of Alexander the Great – the founder of Alexandria, as well as a mosaic made in the 3rd century BC, depicting Berenice - wife of Ptolemy III. Apis looks impressive enough – a huge basalt sacred bull, as well as a pair of carvings of the deity Serapis – one of them is marble, and the other is – wooden. In the Greco-Roman Museum there is a unique crocodile mummy. They carried her out during the processions, which were dedicated to the god Sobek. In the garden, laid out around the museum, there is a restored temple, which was found in El-Fayum. Its decorative carved door is located in the museum building. The Greco-Roman Museum keeps a unique document – the only complete description of the Alexandria Lighthouse.
