The organ, reaching a height of 15 meters, was built of steel, concrete, copper and zinc by craftsman Liam Curtin. Inside it are 18 organ pipes connected with 8 pipes going out to the water's edge. The energy of the sea tides sets the air in the organ pipes in motion, making the organ sound. Melodies are created depending on the weather: in calm weather the organ creates an adagio, in a storm - allegro. The Blackpool Tidal Organ is an amazing synthesis of acoustics, hydraulics, construction technology, sculpture and musical composition.
