Assumption Church in Finland, Turku resort
Rating: 7,7/10 (2221 votes)  The Assumption Church is an Orthodox church with a chapel in Turku, consecrated in honor of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos. Located on the territory of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation. The Church and the Orthodox parish belong to the Finnish Deanery of the Moscow Patriarch. The patronal feast of the church - the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos. The Russian Orthodox parish in the city of Turku was opened at the initiative of the Consul General of Russia and with the support of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate in 2001. The temple was consecrated by Bishop Seraphim of the Baltic in October 2002. The ceremony was attended by important guests: Deputy Mayor of Turku K. Hartila, Consul General of Russia V. V. Rozanov, Chairman of the City Council Kaarina H. Huurme and the delegation from the Lutheran Church of Finland. In 2006, a dome and a cross were donated to the Assumption Church of the Tikhvin Mother of God Assumption Monastery. The interior of the church is rather modest, the iconostasis is remarkable. In 2002, Alexander Achkasov, an icon painter from Sergiev Posad, painted icons for a number of iconostasis, the Royal Doors, and the deacon's gatekeepers. The iconostasis carving project was created by the St. Petersburg artist D. Selivanov, who later created several outdoor frescoes. Several icons were created by the Finnish icon painter Marie Zabyshnaya. In 2008, the Mother Superior of the Murom Holy Trinity Convent, Abbess Tabitha, presented to the Church of the Assumption an icon of Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom with particles of their relics. In 2010, the abbess of Novo-Golutvina of the Kolomna monastery, Abbess Xenia presented the church with an icon of St. Sergius of Radonezh with his life. No less remarkable is the necropolis, where since 2002 Russian military and memorial graves of the city of Turku are located and guarded.
