Photo and description

Chandi Prambanan is a Hindu temple complex, which is located in the province of Central Java, and is dedicated to Trimurti - the so-called "Hindu trinity", the three main Hindu deities - Brahma, Vishna and Shiva. which represent the spiritual beginning - Brahman.

The temple complex is located 17 km northeast of the city of Yogyakarta, on the border between the province of Central Java and the region of the Yogyakarta Special District. In 1991, the temple was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is also considered the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia and one of the largest in Southeast Asia.

The temple complex is distinguished by the high height of buildings and lancet forms, which is inherent in Hindu architecture. The height of the Chandi Prambanan central building is 47 meters. Initially, the complex had 240 temples. There are Trimurti temples - 3 main temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishna and Brahma, in front of these temples there are 3 more temples dedicated to the "Vahan" of Trimurti: Nandi, Garuda and Hamsa. "Wakhana" in Indian mythology is an object or creature that is used by the gods as a means of transportation. For the god Shiva it was the bull Nandi, for Vishna it was Garuda (half-eagle-half-man), and for Brahma it was Hamsa (swan).

The stone bas-reliefs depict scenes from the Indian epic Ramayana. There are charming images of mythical animals and funny monkeys, heavenly trees and, most importantly, the god Shiva, who creates and destroys the world.

Chandi Prambanan consists of so-called zones, there are three of them: outer zone, middle, which contains many small temples, and the third zone, which contains eight main temples and eight small sanctuaries. Each area is fenced with four walls, and each wall has a large gate.
