The Stanpit Marsh Nature Reserve covers an area of about 65 hectares. More than 300 species of various plants grow here, 14 of them are rare and endangered. There are also 312 bird species in the reserve, some of which nest in swamps. Most birds are migratory, in Stanpit Marsh they rest and feed between flights. The reserve is a paradise for amateur bird watchers, in the UK it is even a kind of sport. In addition, the reserve is home to many species of insects, amphibians, in particular, the rare reed toad. A canal, named after the owner of the local pub Hannah Steller, who lived in the 18th century,"Steller's ditch" runs through the swamps of the reserve. The canal led directly to the back door of the pub, which was used by local smugglers. The Bailey collapsible bridge is thrown across the canal, one of the few surviving after the Second World War.
