The house, which can rightfully be called a masterpiece of Russian architecture, has been decorating the city of Ulyanovsk since 1916. The creator of the carved fairy tale was the famous architect Fyodor Osipovich Livchak, who built a number of buildings for the city of Simbirsk (now Ulyanovsk), included in the list of protected architectural monuments.

The owner of a one-story wooden house with an attic was an original and eccentric person: he chaired the School Commission, sat in the Simbirsk City Duma, headed the Society for the Improvement of Suburban Areas, being at the same time a manufacturer and seller of leather footwear and the largest supplier of firewood for the townspeople ... The versatile Sergei Sergeevich Bokounin was the son of a merchant of the second guild, and until the new government came to power, he reasonably preserved and augmented the family capital, not forgetting to dream and strive for new heights in difficult times for all of Russia. In the last summer before the revolution, Bokounin, dreaming of organizing a sailing regatta on a Russian scale, becomes vice president of the yacht club and completely devotes himself to the efforts of rowing and sailing.

The merchant house, popularly called "Teremkom", looks like its fabulous prototype: carved window frames, a hipped-roof tower in the form of a kokoshnik with a window in a light on a high roof and, of course, carved wooden posts front porch.

In 2004, in the rather dilapidated house of the merchant S.S.Bokounin, restoration work was carried out with the replacement of the lost elements. Nowadays, the house houses a cultural fund.
