Jurassic Coast in the UK

The peculiarity of this place is that traces of the earliest times of the existence of the Earth, namely the Mesozoic era, which included the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, are perfectly preserved here. The high scientific and historical value of this place allowed the first in Great Britain to enter the list of natural World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
On the territory of the Jurassic coast, constant archaeological research has been carried out for almost three centuries, and scientists never cease to find new traces of an ancient history no less than 185 million years old, and some finds (for example, green ammonites) are about 197 million years old. These are fossils and other fossils, as well as the remains of dinosaurs, ammonite shells and bones of ancient sea lizards. All this suggests that in the Mesozoic era a large population of dinosaurs lived here, about 100 species, for example, Megalosaurus, Iguanadon, Eotyrannus, Cetiosaurus, etc.
Scientists suggest that the Jurassic coast, along with the adjacent islands, was formed as a result of the rupture of Eurasia and North America, which occurred about 65 million years ago. The local conditions are very favorable for the preservation of traces of ancient eras: clay soil and a weak current, gradually bringing to the surface the remains of the former inhabitants of these places.
The local landscape is unique: the coast is covered with picturesque steep cliffs, which were formed in the Mesozoic era. From Exmet to Lyme Regis, traces of the Triassic Era can be seen, and the famous Ice Age left vast ammonite cemeteries between Steudland Bay and Poole Harbor. Tourists often come here to admire the White Cliffs rising from the sea. Shale and limestone have been mined here for a long time. The Durdle Door is especially famous, which is an arch in the rock of natural origin.
