The orchestra performs at the Leevi Madetoya Concert Hall, built in 1983. The orchestra, called the most northerly, was founded in 1937, and in 1951 received official status. Among the conductors who have worked with the orchestra, the famous Jan Sibelius and Toivo Kuula stand out. The main task of the Oulu Orchestra is to play symphonic music at the highest level for the pleasure of even the most discerning listener. In order to find a response in the hearts of children and youth, the orchestra forges contacts and collaborates with student orchestras and a music school. The orchestra annually organizes and conducts a series of spring concerts, which provide children with a unique opportunity to express themselves and perform with professional musicians. In addition, Oulu's northernmost symphony orchestra interacts with other orchestras in northern Finland, such as the Lapland Chamber Orchestra, the Estrobitian Chamber Orchestra and the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra.
