Not far from Markov-trg square is the Atelier Museum of the famous Croatian sculptor of the XX century Ivan Mestrovic. This workshop is a house that Ivan Mestrovic bought and rebuilt in the early 1920s, when he was already a famous sculptor. He left behind his studies in Vienna and creative trips to Paris, Rome, Cannes and London. He returned to Zagreb with his first wife Ruza Mestrovic. A number of architects and builders invited by the new owner took part in the reconstruction and modernization of the old house on Mletachka Street. The Workshop building is located in the historic center of Zagreb, on a quiet street, surrounded by narrow houses with crumbling facades. The Mestrovic Museum stands out among them with its brightly painted walls and entrance door and a built-up additional floor.

Ivan Mestrovic lived in Zagreb from 1924 to 1942. In 1939 he also built his own house in Split. This mansion also houses the famous sculptor's museum. A mansion in Zagreb, filled with works by a Croatian master, is cute and cozy. The walls are lined with wood panels, and each room has a bright ceramic stove, which was made by order of the owners. The atelier museum rather resembles not a prestigious gallery, but a family nest, from which the owners left on business only a few hours ago and have not yet returned. The small atrium houses an exhibition of sculptures depicting women. The rooms display sketches, documents, personal belongings and miniature copies of Mestrovic's large-scale works. After all, as you know, Ivan Mestrovich worked on many statues and architectural monuments, now decorating the streets of Croatian cities.
