The Augustinian church was built in the 14th century. From 1634 to 1783 it was the palace church of the Habsburg dynasty.

The church was originally built in the Gothic style. But over the centuries it was reconstructed several times. So by the end of the 18th century, practically nothing remained of the original building.

The Augustinian church hosted many wedding and funeral ceremonies for royalty:
  • The wedding of Napoleon I and Maria Louise;
  • Wedding of Franz Stephan of Lorraine and Maria Theresa;
  • Wedding of Elizabeth Witelsbach and Franz Joseph;
  • Wedding of Princess Stephanie of Belgium and Prince Rudolph;
  • Many funeral ceremonies, including the funeral of Emperor Franz Joseph I and many others.

The Augustinian Church is better known not for wedding ceremonies, but for the fact that there is a crypt of hearts here   rulers of the Habsburg family. There are 54 small silver urns with the hearts of emperors and empresses in the crypt.

Today, evenings of classical music are regularly held in the temple. And on Sundays there are masses with choir and organ music.
