For almost 30 years, the museum moved from one building to another, respectively, each item of the exposition was transported from place to place. Finally, in the 50s, the museum occupied the territory of the city market that was already at that time. At the same time, opposite the former building of the market, a completely new museum building was built, made in strict geometric proportions of glass and stone. With the completion of the construction of the new building, the museum's exposition was divided. Pictures and sculptures of world artists remained in the old market building, and the exposition of the new building is entirely devoted to the canvases of Cuban painters. Interestingly, works by Spanish artists of the colonial era are displayed in the old building, while the new building represents the 'fine arts' free Cuba.
