Church of Saints Nicholas and Alexandra in France, Nice resort
Rating: 8,6/10 (4144 votes)  Church of Saints Nicholas and Alexandra – the first Orthodox church built in Nice. The construction of the temple, initiated by Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, began in the winter of 1856 with the help and participation of Russians vacationing in Nice. The project of the church was created by the architect Alexander Kudinov, but the project was greatly modified by the architect from Nice, who erected the temple. The church was consecrated in December 1859. The ceremony was held in the presence of the daughter of Emperor Nicholas I, Princess Mary, the Russian public and diplomats. Particular attention is drawn to the decoration of the church: a three-tiered iconostasis, a tabernacle. The iconostasis, made according to the sketches of Professor A.M. Gornostaeva, donated by Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. The images of the iconostasis are painted in the style of Byzantine frescoes. The cross-shaped tabernacle, donated by the Don army, is made in the shape of a cross.
