Rating: 7,8/10 (120 votes) Palazzi dei Rolli is a quarter of the Genoese aristocracy, built along the city highway Via Garibaldi and its surrounding areas. In 2006, the quarter was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The quarter was the first centralized development project in the history of Europe, which was carried out in accordance with a pre-approved plan. Dozens of palaces were shy in a rather narrow area, which forced the owners to build on the buildings upward. In the second half of the 16th century, the Republican Senate obliged the owners of the palaces to provide hospitality to foreign guests. The Palazzo dei Rolli aroused the greatest interest among foreign tourists as an example of an innovative urban planning solution.
