Rating: 8,0/10 (7645 votes)  Today, the Hanoi citadel is one of the symbols of the city of Hanoi. The citadel was built in 1010 during the reign of the Li dynasty, and until 1810 performed administrative functions, at the end being a place for the conduct of the court. At the end of the 19th century, during the wars, part of the city buildings and structures were destroyed ... At that time, the building of the citadel housed the Vietnamese military headquarters. This place was not chosen by the military by chance – an underground tunnel passed under the citadel, which would have allowed the troops, in the event of a surprise attack, to attack the enemy from the other side. In 2003, construction work carried out here made it possible to discover the remains of the citadel. Its central part with a tower, on which the flag is flying today, has been well preserved to our time. All items found were sent to the Museum of Hanoi History.
