This museum is one of the three museums of the Alley of Arts. In Madrid it is called 'Reina', which is Spanish for 'queen'.

Recently, the number of visitors to the museum has increased dramatically. This is related   with its new look, designed by the architect Jean Nouvel. During the restoration, the area of the museum increased by 25 thousand square meters.

The world-famous painting by Picasso"Guernica", which was brought here in 1992, is exhibited in the museum. Here you can also see the works of artists such as Tapies, Chillida, Pablo Gargano, Juan Gris, Miro, Dali and many others. The museum constantly houses some kind of temporary exhibitions. In addition to the museum, the Center for the Arts has a library, a concert hall and Arola Madrid. - quite a popular restaurant.

In 1988, by royal decree, the museum was given the status of a National Museum. According to the same decree, the museum's exposition should mainly include works of art created in the 20th century, as well as works closely related to Spain.
