Photo and description

On May 4, 1914, the laying of the foundations of one of the palace schools began at the intersection of Zhandarmskaya (now Kholzunova Street) and Malaya Sergievskaya (now Michurin Street) streets. In September of the following year, the school accepted its first students.

At the very beginning of the twentieth century, Saratov reached its peak of development and was proudly called the “capital of the Volga region”. Much attention has begun to be paid to public education; introduced universal free primary education, provided comprehensive assistance to city schools and gymnasiums. In 1911, the chairman of the school commission Nikolsky presented a plan for school construction and, as Russia was preparing to celebrate the three hundredth anniversary of the Romanov dynasty, the plan was supported by inviting the best architects. New buildings with their originality and beauty aroused the admiration of the townspeople, for which they were called palaces (there are four of them in Saratov).

The architect of the school on Malaya Sergievskaya was S.A. Kalistratov, the man who created the architectural face of Saratov in buildings of the conservatory (1912), the women's gymnasium (1914-1915) and the Astoria hotel (1917).

During the First World War, an evacuation hospital was located in the school building, during the revolution - courses for red commanders, during the Great Patriotic War - a military hospital. From 1944 to 1945 - the Oil Technical School, from 1946 - the girls' school №2 and already in 1958 - the secondary school №2.

On July 19, 1965, the school was named after the hero of the Great Patriotic War, pilot V. P. Tikhonov, who studied at this school. Four more heroes of the Great Patriotic War left the walls of the school: A.I. Kholzunov (his name is given to the street at the intersection of which there is a school), V.S. Zarubin, & nbsp; V.N.Simbirtsev and V.A. Rogozhin, who were also awarded the title of heroes for courage and courage in battles and the streets of Saratov were named after them.

Recently, the School of Heroes was replenished with another memorial plaque: P. V. Romanov died while performing his military duty and was awarded the Order of Courage. The current director of the heroic school, Melashchenko V.D. cherishes the traditions of the building today. Events for veterans are regularly held here, students of the school patronize veterans-participants of the Great Patriotic War.
