It became an independent unit only in 1967. In 1986 the Museum moved to a new modern building, built specifically for its collection. Here are works of art of the 20th century from Japan and other countries of the world: paintings (nihonga), prints, sculptures, handicrafts (ceramics, textiles, metal, wood and bamboo products, lacquer and jewelry), photographs and monumental works of modern art.
