Borodino field is a sacred place for all Russians, one of the oldest military history museums, and a truly great battlefield. The museum appeared on this field already in 1839, 27 years after the battle of the Russian army and Napoleon's troops. Today, the collection of the Borodino Field Museum contains more than two hundred memorable objects: these are fortifications, more modern monuments of military glory, and architectural monuments of the 19th-20th centuries, and various documents and exhibits related to the Battle of Borodino.

How to get to Borodinsky field

The easiest way to get to Borodinsky field is from Belorussky railway station. First you need to get by train to Mozhaisk, and then from there by bus to Borodino station or straight to the Borodino Museum. You can also get there by car.

Opening hours and excursions

The Borodino Field Museum is open all year round. From May to October, it is open from 10 am to 6 pm, and from November to April, from 9 am to 4:30 pm. Weekends are Monday and last Friday of every month.

If you want to visit the Borodino field itself and the maximum number of objects, then it is worth allocating the whole day - usually group bus tours take at least 12 hours.

You won't have to pay for the inspection of the Borodino field, but visiting the expositions costs money - from 50 rubles and more. However, it is quite difficult to navigate the field, so it would be better to take an excursion - so you will not miss anything and learn more about the glorious exploits of the Russian army. Excursions are inexpensive - adults start at 110 rubles, and for children - from 70 rubles.

There are various walking routes, from sightseeing to pilgrimage. Schoolchildren are very fond of the literary-interactive walk according to Lermontov's poem"Borodino".

On an independent examination, it is worth considering that the exposition of the Borodino Museum-Reserve is scattered almost 10 kilometers in different directions, so it will be more convenient to see the sights by car or at least by bike.Image

Exposition:" Borodino - Battle of the Giants"

After the main exposition, you should definitely visit the Spaso-Borodino Monastery, on the territory of which there are five more exhibitions telling the history of the Borodino field in different time periods .

There is an exhibition"Artistic Military Toy" especially for children, although many adults also like this exhibition. Here you can see figurines of soldiers from different times and a huge model of an episode of the Battle of Borodino.

Another one an interesting exhibition is located in the refectory of the Beheading of John the Baptist of the Savior-Borodino Monastery, where you can see portraits of officers and generals of the Russian army and ordinary soldiers, participating in the Battle of Borodino. There are more than seven dozen paintings in the gallery.

No less important place in the exposition of the museum-reserve is the hotel, where Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy stayed in due time to collect materials for“ War and Peace". This hotel houses an exhibition"Heroes of the novel" War and Peace"on the Borodino Field", from which you can even find out exactly where Andrei Bolkonsky fought.

At the end of the tour, tourists usually visit the military-historical settlement"Doronino" - a unique village of the 19th century, in which the peasant and military life of that time was recreated. Bagration's flushes were one of the key positions - it was with the reliance on them that the Second Army of the famous commander Bagration inflicted very heavy losses on the Napoleonic troops. Two flashes have survived completely, and only a fragment remained from the central one located near the mausoleum of General Tuchkov.

Rayevsky's battery

This mound battery is located on Red Hill ... The main boldness of the French cavalry fell on the Raevsky battery after Napoleon was unable to take the Semyonov redants. Earthen fortifications remain from the battery today. There are also monuments on the red hill:

  • Tomb of General Bagration;

  • Monument-chapel to Russian soldiers;

In addition, eight memorial plaques have been erected around the surviving earthen fortifications.

Kutuzov's command post

Of course, today, at the place where the command post was located during the Battle of Borodino Kutuzov, there is nothing left. However, in order to mark this memorable place, in 1912 a monument to the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Army M.I.Kutuzov was erected here. It was from this place, where the monument stands today, that during the Battle of Borodino Kutuzov gave orders and directed the actions of the troops.

Shevardinsky Redoubt

Shevardinsky redoubt did not formally participate in the Battle of Borodino - the battle for it was two days before the battle itself, since the fortification was far in front of the rest of the Russian positions. The French took the redoubt, but it cost them many people, and during this time the Russians managed to better arrange their units.

In 1912, the French redoubt was restored, and not far from it were placed monuments to the 12th company and the monument to the Dead Grand Army"dedicated to French soldiers.
