Photo and description

The University of Seville, located in the center of Seville and occupying one of the most beautiful old mansions, was founded in 1505. Today, the University of Seville is one of the largest and oldest universities not only in Spain, but throughout Europe, with more than 65 thousand students studying here. The university was founded on the basis of the College of Santa Maria de Jesus, founded at the end of the 15th century by Archdeacon Francisco Fernand de Santanella. In 1505, a bull was issued by Pope Julius II, according to which the college received the right to be called a University and to confer a degree in sciences such as medicine, law, art, philosophy, theology and logic.

Throughout the history of its existence, the University carried out active research work. A large number of educational programs have been established here, students have the opportunity to choose from a large number of courses and specialties offered. All this makes the University of Seville unusually popular and attractive not only for Spanish students, but also for many foreign students, who every year more and more come to this university to receive education here, the quality of which has always been and remains at its best.

The University has a library with about 777 thousand volumes.

Today, the main building of the University is located in a former tobacco factory, built in the 18th century and recognized as one of the main architectural masterpieces of the Andalusian capital Cities. The rest of the faculties are scattered throughout the city.
