Photo and description
The Sangrahalaya Museum, located in Kanpur, one of the oldest industrial cities in Uttar Pradesh, located in the northern part of India, can rightfully be called the historical "book" of this city, in which you can easily "read" his story. It is located on the territory of the central public park Phul Bagh Maidan, in the KEM Hall and occupies a significant part of it.
This building is a beautiful two-story building, painted yellow, in the style typical of British rule India. In the corners there are traditionally small turrets under neat domes. There is a large clock on the central tower of the hall, which makes it look a bit like London's Big Ben. Openwork carved arches as on the first, and on the second floor give the building a fresh and slightly romantic look.
This museum of local lore is very young, as it was founded only in 1999, but despite this, its collection of exhibits of colonial and postcolonial period is large enough. There are collected things that belonged to famous people of the city that influenced its development, photographs, manuscripts, finds collected during excavations, books. One of the main attractions of Sangrahalaya is the old colonial-era artillery cannon right outside the entrance to the museum.
As the official museum of local history in Kanpur City, Sangrahalaya is the main source of information about the city of Kanpur, and one of the places where city archival and historical documents.
