Photo and descriptionThe Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a baroque cathedral located in Vambezhice near the Stolovyi. Vambezhice - the so-called "Silesian Jerusalem". It is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in southern Poland. Currently, there are about a hundred chapels. According to legends, the Virgin Mary appeared here in the 12th century to the blind Jan, after which he received his sight. The place quickly became an attractive destination for pilgrims. Soon an altar was erected under the tree, and in 1263 the first wooden church was built. In 1512, a brick temple appeared. The construction of the baroque cathedral began in 1715. The work was financed by a local nobleman Franz Anton von Gotzen. A monumental stone staircase of 56 steps leads to the temple, 33 of which in the middle represent the years of Jesus' life on earth. The impressive facade, almost 53 meters high, is decorated in the style of the late Renaissance. The facade is visually divided into three parts, the middle of which is widest. The baroque interior of the church is decorated with paintings and sculptures, the most interesting of which are works by Carl Sebastian Flaker. In the center of the main altar there is a statue of the Madonna and Child and two angels, made of linden wood. The work was done by Flaker in 1723. In February 1936, Pope Pius XI elevated the church to the rank of a Minor Basilica.
