The Regional Art Museum of the Murmansk Region is located in the oldest building of the city of Murmansk, built of stone in 1927, in the historical center of the city, on Kominterna Street. The construction of the building of the transport consumer society (TPO) was started in the spring of 1927 and was completed by the fall. Until 1927, Kominterna Street had a road with log cabins on both sides. The building had 3 floors. There was a shop on the first two floors, and a dining room on the top floor.
During the Great Patriotic War, the building of the transport consumer society was damaged, the glass dome was completely broken, which was its decoration. Years later, it has never been restored. In 1987, the TPO building on Komintern Street gradually began to turn into a future museum. According to the decision of the City Executive Council of People's Deputies of the city of Murmansk, the building was transferred to the full use of the Department of Culture of the Regional Executive Committee. Renovation and renovation work begins in the building, as well as the reconstruction of the existing premises for the needs of the exhibition hall.
In the winter of December 19, 1989, the opening ceremony of the first exhibition hall in the city was held, which soon became the Murmansk Regional Art Museum. Then in his funds were transferred works of graphics, painting, arts and crafts and sculpture. Today the museum collection has more than seven thousand different items.
The permanent exposition of the museum is called "National Fine Arts for the 18th-20th Centuries". It includes several sections, one of which is completely devoted to Russian art of the 18-19 centuries. The pictorial collection is small. Particularly interesting are the paintings of Ilya Zankovsky, Mikhail Klodt, Konstandi Kharlampy.
A separate section is devoted to Russian art of the 20th century, which presents graphic, painting, sculptural works, as well as objects of decorative and applied art. Here are the works of Yevsey Moiseenko, Mikhail Konchalovsky, Dmitry Mochalsky and other talented people.
The collection of the art museum presents a collection of graphics, which is the most numerous representative. In the museum hall you can see the works of Leningrad, Moscow and regional charts. Visitors can get acquainted with the works of Vladimir Favorsky, Ivan Pavlov, Georgy Vereisky, Alexey Pakhomov and some other recognizable graphic artists. In addition, graphic works of some Murmansk artists, for example, Tatiana Kovaleva, Mikhail Kirin, Yuri Pankov, and Vladimir Chernov, are of considerable interest. The museum has a small collection dedicated to sculpture. In this section, you can see the works of talented sculptors of the 20th century: Mikhail Tkhakumashev, Sergey Konenkov, Nadezhda Sheek, Ilya Slonim.
As you know, the Kola North has always been especially attractive for people of the creative profession. In the 19th century, the most famous artists came to these lands. A large group of artists came to the North in the 1930s.
The painting department, which is dedicated to artists from their hometown, introduces the works of the most experienced artists of the Murmansk region. Here are the works of Vasily Baranov, Nikolai Morozov, Nikolai Kovalev, Anatoly Sergienko and many other talented people.
The museum contains works by masters of decorative and applied art: Tatiana Chernomor, Evgeny Baranov. There are also tapestries from Zubitskaya Victoria.
In the section devoted exclusively to the work of artists from Murmansk, visitors can get an idea of the modern development of fine art in the Kola North.
At the end of the exposition, works of decorative and applied art are presented, where you can learn about the main northern crafts: painting on wood, making toys from clay, bone carving, weaving from birch bark.
