Photo and description

Braganca is one of the largest cities in Portugal in terms of area. The old part of the city is surrounded by a long fortress wall, and the city itself attracts tourists with its historical center, which has been perfectly preserved to this day and where you can see amazing medieval sights.

The Braganca Military Museum is located in the large tower of the castle, which is part of a medieval fortress located on the hill of the city. The square tower Menagin, which was built during the reign of King Juan I and where the museum is located, reaches a height of 33 meters and has three floors, on the top floor there is an observation deck, which offers a stunning view of the city and the surrounding landscapes.

The museum was founded in 1932 by Colonel Antonio Jose Texeira, who was the commander of the 10th Infantry Regiment, located in the citadel of the city from the middle of the 19th century. Many of the museum's items are taken from the colonel's private collections, including exhibits showing the periods of the Spanish and Napoleonic Wars (during which Braganza was occupied), as well as the African campaign in 1895.

The Braganca War Museum resumed its work and significantly expanded its collection in 1983. A magnificent collection of armor and weapons from the 14th-17th centuries, medieval instruments of torture, traditional costumes and a collection of African art, as well as weapons exhibits from the First World War are on display for tourists.

Next to the museum is the oldest pillar in Portugal,
