Photo and description

The bronze statue of Nika, the goddess of victory, installed in the People's Heroes' Park in Kavala on Eleftheriou Venizelou Street, directly opposite the City Hall, symbolizes the struggle of the Greeks for their freedom from ancient times to early 20th century. The sculptor, author and performer of the project created in 1970 is Janis Parmakelis. In addition, there is a large marble relief - a memorial to the memory of all heroes who fought against the occupation of Greece in different periods, made by Dionysis Gerolymatos.

Dense vegetation, tall trees, outdoor cafes create pleasant shade and peace. The square is almost always full in summer and is a favorite meeting place for city residents in the evenings. Several busts of Greek heroes and a marble monument to Alexander the Great are located in the park.
