The mission of the Museum of the History of Photography in Krakow is to preserve the cultural heritage, history and memory of photography and the masters of their craft. Also, the museum is a modern institution that serves as a space for live communication and exchange of views on current cultural issues. The idea of creating such a museum was born from the president of the Krakow photographic community, Vladislav Klimczak. In 1992, the museum moved into the former city villa, built by the architect Rudolph in 1923. The collection of the museum now contains more than 2000 objects, 600 different types of cameras, manufactured between 1880 and 2005. Another part of the collection is dedicated to lenses, photographic laboratories, various equipment and props. The unique collection of Polish photographic equipment deserves special attention. It includes all models (including variants) that were developed and produced after World War II in Poland. The museum has managed to acquire camera models that have never been mass-produced, including the Zefir 35mm camera. The museum also collects a collection of items related to cinematographic technology. The core of the collection is made up of cinema projectors for films of various widths. In total, the collection includes about 50 floodlights made during the interwar period.
