Photo and description

Fort Siloso is located on the west coast of Sentosa Island and is the only historical heritage site of this entertainment mecca.

The fort was founded by the British colonial administration. It was the British who in the eighties of the XIX century created a defensive line on the west coast of the island. It consisted of twelve batteries that protected the strait from pirate attacks. Only Fort Siloso has survived to this day. At the beginning of the last century, it was renovated and strengthened. By the second world war, this strategic facility even had a bomb shelter with a sufficient reserve of provisions, water and ammunition. The fort's garrison was ready to attack. However, the Japanese army attacked not from the sea, but from land, and after the surrender of Singapore, Fort Siloso suffered the same fate. During the Japanese occupation, there was a prisoner of war camp here, which remained in history as a place of unprecedented atrocities by the invaders.

After Sentosa became part of Singapore, the fortress was completely restored. They restored not only the underground headquarters with communications, but also the armory and utility rooms.

Today the old fort is a memorial protected by the state. For the people of Singapore, this place is very revered - in memory of the ancestors who died for their land.

The museum, which is located in this fortification, has the largest number of historical objects in the country, ancient guns and cannons, photographs and documents , dioramas and documentaries.

The scenes depicting the war conditions of the time look truly believable. Many of them are interactive: visitors can take part in a headquarters meeting and decide which weapons to provide for one or another company. In short, the fort is equipped with the meticulous care and imagination typical of the Singaporean tourism industry. Even the bus, which you can get to it, is stylized as a military one.
