Photo and description

The State Museum-Reserve of I. Tobilevich (Karpenko-Kary) has been assigned the territory of an estate in Nikolaevka near Kirovograd, which belonged to the playwright at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It was called "Farm Hope" in honor of the wife of K. Tobilevich Nadezhda, nee Tarkovskaya.

The founder of the Ukrainian theater turned a piece of the Ukrainian hinterland into a creative oasis, settling here after exile in 1887. It was here that the first Ukrainian theatrical troupe held rehearsals under the direction of M. Kropyvnytsky. It was visited by many theatrical luminaries, and Karpenko-Karym himself created his best works: "The Boss", "One Hundred Thousands", etc.

The museum is surrounded by a magnificent park planted by I. Tobilevich. He laid the foundation for the tradition: each friend, or guest of the estate, planted a tree. And now the farm has a kind of living “walk of fame”. Giant spreading oaks grow here, which were planted a century ago by Maria Zankovetskaya and Nikolai Sadovsky, Mikhail Staritsky and Mark Kropyvnitsky.

The house of the Tobilevich family, outbuildings, a summer theater, an ancient chumack well and even a park with a pond have survived to this day. In 69 of the last century, a monument to I. Tobilevich and a stele to Nadezhda Tarkovskaya were erected on the farm. The farm belongs to the outstanding historical and cultural sights of Ukraine, and in 1956 it received the status of a museum-reserve.

The exposition of the Khutor Nadezhda Museum-Reserve has about 2 thousand items, transferred mainly by the Tobilevich-Tarkovsky family. The estate is annually visited by thousands of guests not only from Ukraine, but also from abroad. The 125th anniversary of the playwright's birth was celebrated with the September Gems Theater Festival, which has become an all-Ukrainian one since 1990. Prominent writers and theater figures of the country take part in it.
