Photo and description

One of the sights of Samara is the mansion of Alfred F. von Wakano, the creator of the famous Zhiguli beer and the owner of the brewery. A mansion was built in the historical part of old Samara in 1914 along Rabochaya Street (formerly Pochtovaya Street), organically fitting into the architectural ensemble of Teatralnaya Square. The author of the project of the mansion in the style of German Art Nouveau was the Samara architect Dmitry Alexandrovich Werner.

A spacious, three-storey mansion with an attic, bay windows and ledges, facing the main facade on Rabochaya Street, differs in laconic and expressive plastic from the nearby buildings. German Art Nouveau "Art Nouveau" is manifested in the restrained and austere decor of the building, in a combination of various forms and proportions of windows. In the center of the main facade there is a semicircular bay window, turning into a rotunda with a semicircular terrace - a balcony, crowned with an observation deck on the third floor.

The famous brewer Alfred Filippovich von Wakano did not use the mansion for long, in 1915 he was accused of espionage, and in 1919 the building housed the Red Army club. In 1926, the building was nationalized and transferred to the city's housing stock. For a long time, communal apartments were located in the mansion, which could not but affect its condition. In 1995 the mansion was completely reconstructed after repeated redevelopment and decorative elements were restored. Now the building houses the regional branch of the social insurance fund. Found heirs of A.F. von Wakano gave up their legal rights to the mansion in favor of an organization providing social assistance to the population.

The mansion of Alfred F. von Wakano is considered an architectural monument and is protected by the state.
