Photo and description

National Park "Adamello Brenta" is located in the western part of the Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige and consists of the Adamello and Brenta mountain ranges, separated by the Val Rendena valley. The total area of the park - the largest in Trentino and one of the largest in Europe - is 620.51 sq. Km. It is surrounded by the picturesque valleys of Val di Non, Val di Sole and Giudicarie. There are 39 municipalities in the park.

The landscapes of the park are unusually varied, which is associated with a ranking of heights from 400 to 3500 meters (Mount Chima Presanella) - there are vast forests, pastures, grass meadows, rocky cliffs and glaciers. By the way, the Adamello glacier is considered one of the largest in Europe. In addition, the park is famous for the abundance of water resources - there are more than 50 lakes alone! All this contributes to the prosperity of the richest wildlife in the Alps. The park is home to many mountain animal species, especially the numerous brown bears, which have become the symbol of the park, and alpine ibex. The flora is no less diverse - a similar richness of species is found only in some parts of the Alps.

Among several wonderful valleys that make up the "Adamello Brenta", the long and truly wild Val Jenova, in which waterfalls fall from breathtaking peaks, stands out. To the east of the park are the Dolomiti di Brenta: a fabulous landscape of pointed turrets and overhanging walls. The amazing Val di Tovel is considered a true "Alpine gem" with its famous "red lake" Tovel, which got its color from microscopic algae.

For the first time, the idea of creating a protected area between the Adamello-Presanella and Dolomiti di Brenta mountains appeared at the beginning of the 20th century - then it was about the preservation of the population of brown bears, as well as about the protection of Lake Tovel and the Val Jenova valley, but only in 1967 Park "Adamello-Brenta" was founded. Today it is one of the main natural attractions of Trentino-Alto Adige, popular with fans of ecotourism. In addition to 14 valleys, each of which is interesting in its own way, on the territory of the park there are also creations of human hands that deserve attention - dilapidated castles and ancient churches, former feudal estates and abandoned monasteries. All of them are contemporaries of legendary emperors and sibyls, warriors and princesses, and witnesses to brutal murders, romantic stories of love and betrayal.

You can get acquainted with the history of the park, the natural world and its inhabitants, as well as order a tour in one of the visiting centers of "Adamello-Brenta", which bear the general name - Case del Parco. It is from them that numerous hiking trails begin throughout the territory. Among the most popular are the Dolomiti di Brenta trail, which runs through the most beautiful valleys in the park, and the trail leading to Lake Tovel.
