Photo and description

The most romantic castle in the Lviv region is the Svirzh castle, which is located in the village of Svirzh, Peremyshlya region. A unique monument of defense architecture of the XV-XVII centuries, originally built as a fortress, but after reconstruction in the XVII century. lost its original appearance.

The building of the Svirzh Castle stands among picturesque nature, on a small mountain Belz. On the one hand, it is surrounded by a beautiful lake, and on the other - a cozy park.

The castle was built in 1482, but the first information about it dates back to 1530. The construction has repeatedly participated in battles and wars. Since 1648 the Svirzh castle was seized several times by Cossack detachments, burned down at the hands of the Tatars, and in 1672 it was completely destroyed by the Turks. But, he did not always succumb to enemies, for example, in 1675. the castle was still able to withstand the next siege of the Turks.

The restoration of the fortress took place under the leadership of the French general Robert Lamezan-Salyans, and then his son-in-law, Tadeusz Komarovsky, took over. Restoration work lasted until the outbreak of World War II, during which the building was partially destroyed. In Soviet times, after the next restoration, the Svirzh Castle was used as a school for tractor drivers, and later as the House of Creativity of the Union of Architects, which still exists.

Near the ancient castle there is a church built in 1546, which also needs restoration. In Soviet times, the church housed a warehouse, in 1901 - a museum of atheism, and only in 1988 it was returned to the status of a temple.

The current state of the Svirzh Castle leaves much to be desired. Only the outer walls of the structure have survived to this day. In the courtyard of the castle, you can see a large abandoned well, from which water was taken in case of a siege. Svirzh Castle is rented by a private person, so access to it is limited.
