Photo and description

Teatro Communale is located in Piazza Cavour, the cultural center of Rimini. The theater was opened in 1857 with a production of Giuseppe Verdi's opera Harold. During the Second World War, the building was badly damaged. Only its facade has survived.

In front of the theater on the square there is a monument to Pope Paul V, erected here at the beginning of the 17th century. And next to it is an even older fountain (1543) `` Bump '' in the form of three concentric ledges topped with a marble cone.

The Arengo Palace was built at the very beginning of the XIII century during the reign of Modio de Carbonese. From time immemorial, the palace was considered a symbol of the free city-commune and now it houses the city administration. During its long life, the palace was rebuilt several times, but in 1926 the architect Gaspare Rastrelli restored the building to its original appearance.

The brick facade of the building is decorated with machicules in the form of a dovetail. The main room of the palace - Hall del Arengo is decorated with the fresco `` The Last Judgment '' XIV century by an artist from the school of Giotto. Carlo Goldoni suggested using the palace as a theater stage and for two centuries there were performances based on the plays of the famous playwright.

Next to the Palazzo del Arengo is the Palazzo del Podesta, built in the 1330s. Pointed arches and five small windows adorn the facade of the palace. And the forked mashiculi teeth not only decorate the building, but are also necessary for defense, turning an elegant palazzo into an impregnable fortress.
