Photo and description

Giulianova is a resort town located in the north of the Italian region of Abruzzo on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. It is part of the so-called Palm Riviera and is distinguished by wide sandy beaches and a rich ancient history.

The city was founded in the era of Ancient Rome as a colony called Castrum Novum. Then it became known as Castel San Flaviano. During its long history, the city has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. At the end of the 15th century, by order of Duke Giulio Antonio Aquaviva, a new city was built on a hill near the coast, which was named Giulianova.

Today it is the most populated resort in the Teramo province in Abruzzo. It is located between the mouths of the Salinello and Tordino rivers. On the waterfront - lido - there are numerous hotels and campings, bars, restaurants and sports complexes for every taste. Residents of Rome and Milan, as well as Germans and French, like to come here on vacation.

Of the sights of Giulianova, it is worth noting the octahedral Cathedral of San Flaviano of the 15th century with a sculpture of the Madonna and Child, the Temple of Santa Maria dello Splendore, in the sacristy of which the 16th century image of the 16th century by Paolo Veronese is kept, and the brick Church of Santa Maria a Mare, founded in the 11th century and remarkable with 18 stone slabs depicting mysterious figures. Also noteworthy are the Palazzo Ducale and the 16th-century watchtower Torre del Salinello. Nature lovers will enjoy a trip to the nearby Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park.
