Trakai park (Traku istorinis nacionalinis parkas) description and photos - Lithuania: Trakai. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The name in English is Traku istorinis nacionalinis parkas. Photo and descriptionTrakai Park covers 8200 hectares and amazes with its extraordinary beauty. Structurally, the park is divided into several parts: an ornithological reserve, three hydrographic ones, two protected areas (an ancient settlement in Trakai and Trakai castle) and a nature reserve near Trakai. In the park, you can see dozens of objects that are monuments of nature and history. This park, like no other, will be able to tell you the history of Lithuania in ancient times. Of course, this is primarily possible thanks to the old buildings (there are about 50 of them), which are located in the park. Harmoniously combining the past, present and future, the National Park in Lithuania began to operate in 1991. In the center of the park is the city of Trakai, which is located 27 kilometers from Vilnius. The city is surrounded on all sides by lakes and has an extraordinary atmosphere created by the local landscapes. Archaeological excavations are ongoing in Trakai and more than a thousand artifacts have been found, and more treasures are planned to be discovered. The city has preserved many monuments of such eastern culture as the Karaites, among them the prayer house of the Kariams. Around Trakai there is a system of castles created in the 14th century, the most popular of which is the "Peninsula Castle", located on a peninsula between two lakes Luke and Galve. It was built in the 14th century under the Grand Duke Keistut, serving the owners until 1655. Unfortunately, we got only the ruins from the castle, not far from them you can find the ruins of the Dominican monastery. Lake Galve is one of the most unique, there are about 20 islets on it, on one of which the Trakai island castle was built, the only one in Central Europe. Today the castle has been restored according to the schemes that were found by archaeologists. The castle complex includes a special building separated from the main building by a moat and a defensive wall. In the 15th century, magnificent and cheerful receptions and celebrations were held in the castle, and today the halls of the castle are filled with foreign tourists who want to learn as much as possible about Lithuania. Inside the castle there is a museum with 11 rooms, among the exhibits you can find ancient collections of princes and works of applied art. The lakes in Trakai Park can not only be admired, but also picnics next to them, swim and fish. And at the campsite you can find accommodation. Most of the park is covered with forests, therefore, in addition to the lakes and beautiful architecture of Trakai, you can enjoy walks in the forest in the park. The park is surrounded by several diverse forests at once, the oldest of which is the Varniku forest. The Uzutrakis Park, located on 50 hectares, will amaze with its uniqueness and beauty. One of the main attractions of the park is the Uzutrakis Palace with an adjacent French-style park. This palace was in the possession of the Tyshkevich family until 1939, and it was built in 1990, on the southeast coast of Lake Glavje.
