The only museum in Ukraine that represents the original school of Volyn icon painting is the Museum of Volyn icon. The museum is located in the city of Lutsk, on Yaroshchuk Street, 5. The opening of the museum took place in August 1993.

The creation of this collection is associated with the name of the outstanding Ukrainian art critic P. Zholtovsky. He headed the scientific expeditions of the Volyn Museum of Local Lore of the 80s of the XX century to collect and study historical and cultural monuments in the churches of the Volyn region.

The Lutsk Museum of Volyn Icon keeps unique collections of sacred art monuments - icons, decorative carvings , sculptures, crucifixes and other religious objects. In the museum funds, there are over one and a half thousand exhibits that were created in the XI-XX centuries, among them there are about 600 icons.

The school of Volyn icon painting was distinguished by its originality. Volyn icon painters possessed the ability to combine various styles, and also had a creative manner of translating religious ideas into picturesque images. Their icons, thanks to their unique energy, have become famous not only in Ukraine, but also abroad.

The pearl of the Museum of the Volyn Icon, which attracts pilgrims from all over the world, is the miraculous Kholmsk Icon of the Mother of God. This is one of the oldest icons. Probably, the icon was painted in the XI-XII centuries in Byzantium.

The Museum of the Volyn Icon also stores many other legendary images that reflect the history of one of the best icon painting schools. Among them: "Savior in Glory", "Crucifixion" (XVI century), "Yuri the Serpent Fighter with Life" (1630), "Ascent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles" (early 17th century), "Nativity of the Virgin" and "Ascension of the Prophet Elijah" (trans. Half of the 17th century), "Ascent to Hell" (mid. 17th century), "St. ... Barbara with her life "(end of the 17th century) and others.
