One of the oldest academic theaters in Ukraine is the Nikolaev Academic Ukrainian Theater of Drama and Musical Comedy, which is located at 59 Dunaev Street. The Nikolaev Theater began its biography in November 1927, when the Theater of the Young Spectator was founded. Two years later (1959), the Nikolaev State Theater of Young Spectators and the Nikolaev Shevchenko Ukrainian Mobile Theater were merged into one collective - the Nikolaev Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater.

In 1980, the theater was awarded the status of the Nikolaev Ukrainian theater of drama and musical comedy. Since 1999, the theater has annually participated in the international theater festival called "Melpomene of Tavria". Starry time for the Nikolaev Theater came in September 2001. when he received the status of "academic".

Four years later, the theater opened a small stage, initially showing great creative achievements. After the performances that were staged on the small stage - "Orchid Amaryllis and Rose", "GSP", "Indian Summer" and "Wishmaker" - the number of theater fans increased rapidly. The main aspect of the theater's work is the popularization of national culture and history ("Vechernitsy", "Bandura - the soul sings", Shevchenko's days), and one of the directions of the Small Stage was educational activities.

Today in the theater, all creative ideas are realized by a friendly team of like-minded people - leaders and a powerful creative team of the theater, which continues to amaze its audience.
