The title in English is Cerro El Plomo. Photo and descriptionMount Cerro el Plomo is located in the Andes near Santiago, at an altitude of 5434 meters. She can be seen on clear days while in Santiago. The season for climbing this mountain is from November to March. The first ascent of the mountain was made by Gustav Brandt and Rudolph Luke in 1896. Mount Cerro el Plomo is one of the highest peaks in the region. For this reason, the mountain was chosen as a refuge for the Incas. On its slopes, archaeologists find much evidence of sun worship ceremonies. The most famous ceremony was the sacrifice of young men and women, called by the Incas 'Capac Cocha'. At the source of the Mapocho River, just 30 meters below the top, there are three stone rectangular structures - tombs. On February 1, 1954, the mummy of a nine-year-old child was found in this place, which was also sacrificed. The Cerro el Plomo mountain was probably chosen for the construction of the sanctuary - the southernmost part of the Inca empire complex. The choice of this particular place was determined due to the great height and size of the mountain, its huge glaciers, its visibility from a long distance, the convenience of sites suitable for the construction of a shrine. Cerro el Plomo's "ceremonial complex" may have been the main sanctuary of the Incas. Climbing the summit of Cerro el Plomo is easy for a trained climber, who will take into account the possibility of strong winds, drop in atmospheric pressure and will not try to climb the mountain in one weekend. The landscape on Cerro el Plomo is breathtaking: snows, waterfalls, large glaciers, ancient trails of the Incas. On the slopes is one of the best ski resorts in South America - Cordilleran Vegas.
