Khreshchaty (Merchant) park description and photo - Ukraine: Kiev. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionKhreshchaty Park (often referred to as the Merchant Garden) is located in the center of Kiev. The park has long turned into a favorite place for walking for both Kiev residents and city guests. This is not surprising, because it is from here that the most beautiful view opens up both of the Dnieper and one of the oldest parts of the city - Podil. The park received one of its names thanks to the Kiev merchants, who rented a part of the old City (Tsarskoe) park, which was located next to the building of the Merchant Assembly (now it houses the National Philharmonic of Ukraine). The central entrance to the park is located on the European Square, from where the park stretches to terraces on the slopes of the Dnieper. Together with the Mariinsky Park, Khreshchaty Park makes up a kind of Kiev Park Ring, landscape designs of which are rightfully included in the list of the best in all of Ukraine. Here, in the flowerbeds and alleys, one can find not only the usual representatives of the local flora, but also plants brought from abroad, which have managed to become “their own” in unusual natural conditions. Throughout the existence of Khreshchaty Park, monuments and monuments characteristic of a particular era have appeared and disappeared on its territory. They managed to visit the monuments to Emperor Alexander II, Soviet party leaders Grigory Petrovsky and Joseph Stalin and others. The most grandiose monument, still towering at the entrance to the park, is the giant steel Arch of Friendship of Peoples, timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the creation of the USSR. The park also often changed its names, until finally, in the 90s of the twentieth century, old, historical names returned to him. However, Khreshchaty Park did not suffer from this - it still remains one of the most favorite places for recreation and pleasant pastime.
