Photo and description

The chapel-church in the name of the holy noble Prince Igor of Chernigov is located in Pushkin at the corner of Konyushennaya and Moskovskaya streets. Refers to the Catherine Cathedral of the St. Petersburg Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Initially, in Pushkin, on the place where during the Second World War the Germans carried out numerous executions, it was planned to arrange a secular monument. Fundraising was carried out by residents of the city. A competition was organized, in which the project in the form of a monolithic figure completed with an Orthodox cross won.

At the suggestion of Archpriest Gennady Zverev, the rector of the Sophia Church, it was decided to build a chapel. On May 9, 1994, the groundbreaking ceremony took place. The construction was blessed by Metropolitan John of St. Petersburg and Ladoga (Snychev). In memory of the bookmark, a stone was installed, on which there was an inscription: "A monument to the victims of fascism 1941-1944 will be erected on this place." But due to a lack of funds, the construction of the chapel was temporarily stopped.

In 1997, work was started again on the initiative and at the expense of the Baltic Construction Company. The plan, according to which the memorial chapel was erected, was developed by the architect Vyacheslav Borisovich Bukhaev together with the architect Elena Leonidovna Svetlova. The construction was supported by several St. Petersburg organizations.

At the beginning of July 1998, Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga Vladimir (Kotlyarov) in the presence of the mayor of the city of Pushkin Yu.P. Nikiforov and the Governor of St. Petersburg V.A. Yakovlev, a solemn ceremony of consecration of the chapel was held in honor of the Blessed Grand Duke Igor of Chernigov. A foundation stone with an inscription was laid in the blind area of the chapel. In 2001, a throne was established here, regular services began.

The chapel building is one-story, has the shape of a cross. The central cube on a special drum is crowned with a cupola. The belfry is located in the drum. The bells were delivered from the city of Mechelen (Belgium). The automated bells operation system was installed with the direct help of specialists from France.

The bas-reliefs on the pediments of the church and the icon of St. Igor of Chernigov are made of stainless steel. The author is the artist Vladimir Kulikov. The chapel contains the "Memory Book" of Pushkin, made by the Council of Veterans of the city. It contains a list of names and surnames of people who died during the years of occupation. All of them are commemorated during divine services. Every year on the day of the anniversary of the beginning of the seizure of the city of Pushkin (September 17, 1941), people lay flowers at the foundation of the chapel-church (memorial stone).

For a number of years, “children's” services have been organized in the church. Singers are students of the parish school of Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius, created at the Sophia Cathedral, children also served in the altar as sextons.
