Petrovac is located on the coast of the bay, which presents a picturesque and luxurious landscape to the eyes of tourists. The city resembles an amphitheater, as mini-hotels, cottages and villas built on the top of the slope are surrounded by greenery of pine and olive trees. The full name of the city is Petrovac-na-sea.

In the 3rd century AD, a Roman settlement was located on the site of the city, information about which was first mentioned in the priest's "Chronicles of Duklanin". These references date back to the middle of the XII century. Petrovac received its current name only in the 20th century, although the city itself was founded in the 19th century.

As part of Montenegro, it was called Kastel Lastva for a long time because of the Venetian fortress built here in the 16th century called Castio ... Subsequently, the building was planned to be used as a plague infirmary.

Castio Fortress is located in the northern part of the city beach. The upper platform of the ancient fortress today is a memorial, where you can see a plaque dedicated to the fallen soldiers of Montenegro, and in particular to the inhabitants of Petrovac in World War II. A flag fluttering over the fortress is a symbol of Montenegrin independence.
