Photo and description

The Technical Museum of Zagreb is a large museum complex dedicated to science and technology. For the first time, they started talking about the creation of such a museum at the end of the 19th century, but only by 1954 the ideas began to be implemented, when the decision to start construction was finally made.

Since 1959, the Zagreb Technical Museum has been located at its current location, on the street Savskoy. Initially, the role of exhibition pavilions was performed by wooden buildings erected for the Zagreb Fair in 1948. These buildings are still on the territory of the museum; various social events are periodically held in them. The architect of the modern Technical Museum of Zagreb is Emil Vicits.

Bozho Tejak, who was a university professor at the time the museum was founded, considered the founder of the Zagreb Technical Museum. He was the first to head the Museum Council. Predrag Grdenich is the first director of the Technical Museum of Zagreb.

Some of the numerous exhibits of the Technical Museum of Zagreb are on display in the permanent exhibition, and some are carefully kept in storerooms. To date, the Zagreb Technical Museum has collected more than five thousand various exhibits representing various scientific and technical inventions and technologies. It began in 1963 with the founding of a department dedicated to energy conversion, transportation and mining tools. The following year, a department dedicated to the oil industry was established. A year later - the planetarium and the department of cosmonautics. A demonstration room-office, representing the activities of Nikola Tesla, appeared in the museum in 1976. An agricultural department has been operating since 1981. The last, in 1992, was the department dedicated to fire safety. A year later, an alley with sculptures of Croatian scientists who made a significant contribution to the development of technology was opened.

Since 1994, some departments have expanded. For example, in the department of agriculture, an apiarium was created, that is, a scientific apiary. And in 1999, the energy conversion department added a collection of devices that generate thermal energy. Since 2006, Nikola Tesla's showroom has been reconstructed.
