Photo and description

The Museum of the Revolution, housed in a five-story Art Nouveau building in the 1960s, is located on 24 July Avenida, opposite the Madgermanes Garden. The museum is dedicated to the history of the struggle for the country's independence from the Portuguese colonialists. As you know, in 1962, the FRELIMO organization was founded - the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique, which for 10 years waged a war with the Portuguese troops. Attempts to declare Mozambique an independent republic were crowned with success in 1974 when the Portuguese left the country. Almost immediately, civil war broke out in Mozambique. Relatively calm times came only in the 90s of the XX century.

The Museum of the Revolution is usually visited by students, schoolchildren and curious tourists. His collections are arranged in chronological order, telling about the course of the liberation struggle. Shown here are the weapons used by the rebels and the Portuguese army, the car that one of the FRELIMO leaders Eduardo Mondlane drove, the personal belongings of the leaders of the national liberation movement, the clothes of the fighters for independence. Many of the exhibits are new, for example, paintings illustrating the Mozambican Revolution. One of them depicts Zamora Machel, who later became President of Mozambique, and Eduardo Mondlane.

The pride of the collection of the Museum of the Revolution is a replica of the hut in which the leaders of the revolutionary movement were hiding. The museum staff assure that this hut is assembled from the branches of the original hut.

The granddaughter of Zamora Machel knows the history of each exhibit and many interesting facts about the struggle for the independence of Mozambique. who works here as a guide.
