Photo & Description

The National Museum of Fine Arts and Sculpture is located next to the Ethnographic Museum. The museum contains a collection of works by Turkish artists from the 19th century to the present day. Also, exhibitions of other museums are often held here.

The house where the museum is located was transferred to the Ankara vilayet administration by Hafiz Mehmet Nurettin Karaoguz and was restored by the Second Directorate of the vilayet administration. On April 1, 1997, it was opened as a private museum. It presents works that shed light on the ethnographic and historical features of this territory, and also offers attention to works related to the times of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires. It also features contemporary masterpieces of fine art and sculpture.

Today the museum is a center of art, displaying the most outstanding works of artists who have played an important role in the development of Turkish culture. In addition to the collection of works of art, reflecting the periods of formation and development of Turkish fine art and its classification, there is also a library of plastic arts that fills the gap in this area (enriched annually by donations from Turkish and foreign patrons, or through new purchases), there are here and archives of Turkish artists. These archives are often consulted by researchers working in these fields.

Collections of painting, sculpture, ceramics, graphics and photography are displayed in three galleries set aside for temporary exhibitions. Besides, within the framework of international cultural agreements, exhibitions of Turkish art works selected from the museum's collection are organized. These retrospective exhibitions are organized by the Directorate General of Fine Arts.
