Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe Nyenschanz Museum is a historical and archaeological museum in St. Petersburg, located on the Promenade des Anglais, 6. This is the first and only museum whose exposition describes the prehistory of the city. The Nyenskans Museum was founded on May 24, 2003 with the participation of the project manager Dmitry Alexandrovich Kiselev. Initially, the museum was called “700 years - Landskrona, Nevskoe Ustye, Nyenskans”. The museum is located in the former building of Petrozavod, which stands on the site of the once existing fortress Nyenskans & nbsp; Now Nyenschanz is one of the projects of the Okhta Foundation - the Okhta Cultural Heritage Support Fund. The area of the exposition and exhibition area is 250 sq.m. A tour of the museum is a grandiose journey through time, which begins in the Middle Ages and ends today. A huge historical layer (more than 7 centuries of history) with a large number of wars with great victories and powerful defeats appears before visitors, consisting of stories both about commanders and kings, and about the smallest everyday details of bygone eras. The exposition opened on the 300th anniversary of the founding of St. Petersburg. The basis for the permanent museum exposition was the materials of archaeological excavations that were carried out in 1992-2000 by the St. Petersburg archaeological expedition of the IIMK RAS, NWI Heritage at the mouth of the Okhta River, on the territory of settlements of pre-Petrine times. A separate part of the material is devoted to the foundations of stone, the remains of wooden dwellings, studied in 1999-2000 on the right bank of the Okhta River, buildings of Nyen (Swedish city) and a cemetery of the 17th century. The exposition continues to display materials from excavations carried out in the same area since 2007 as part of the establishment of the Okhta social and business center.
