The Sultanovskaya Mosque is located in the central region of Kazan, in the Old Tatar Sloboda. The mosque is located at the intersection of G. Tukaya and G. Kamala streets. This is one of the historical parts of Kazan. The Old Tatarskaya Sloboda is located between the Bulak Canal and the Lower Kaban Lake. (“Bulak” in Tatar means “sleeve”, earlier the channel connected Lake Kaban with the Kazanka River). The main street of the settlement is the street. G. Tukaya. On this street in 1868 a mosque was built. The funds for the construction were donated by the merchant Zigansha Bikmukhametovich Usmanov (1817 -1872).

The Sultanovskaya Mosque is single-hall, with mezzanines. By its type, it is a mosque-jami. The minaret of the mosque is ground, high, conical, with three tiers. The entrance to the mosque is located at the corner of the building at the bottom of the minaret. A small passage connects the minaret with a double-height hall. The crossing has a hipped roof. The prayer hall is divided by a transverse wall, which forms the lobby. The reading of the first namaz in the mosque was conducted by S. Marjani. During the construction of the building of the mosque, he also installed a "qibla" in the direction of Mecca.

The mosque is also called the Usmanov or Ziganshi mosque, in memory of the benefactor.

The fate of the building had dark times. In 1931, the government closed the popular mosque. The building was not used for its intended purpose for many years. The minaret of the mosque was destroyed in 1930. In 1990, according to the project of Khalitov, the minaret was restored near the mosque.
